I hadn't seen any really big waves in Hawai'i, but heard from some locals in Maui that Christmas morning would bring huge waves at Jaws. A storm to the north sent a series of massive waves, and the hardcore tow surfers spent Christmas morning enjoying the best gift ever.
Luckily, the previous day I had bought a 2x extender, so I was able to get some shots from the Jaws overlook on the cliff high above, which was crowded with spectators and surfing fans.
